Golf Courses on the North Oregon Coast - #23 of 101 Things to do on the Oregon Coast

Golf Courses on the North Oregon Coast - Oregon Coast Activity #23 of 101 Things to do on the Oregon Coast

You won't find any world class golf courses on the north Oregon coast, but don't let that stop you. Some are quirky, some are historic and some are just plain fun.

Alderbrook Golf Course
Alderbrook Golf Course -  Tillamook
Opened in 1924, Alderbrook Golf Course is one of the oldest courses along the Oregon Coast. 95 acres of dairy farmland were transformed into this scenic and challenging 18-hole layout. Originally a nine-hole course, the layout has undergone major renovations over the years, including its expansion to 18 holes. Despite the changes, Alderbrook has retained its classic character and still gives golfers a classic round. The mountains that enclose the course provide a stunning backdrop and the rugged terrain of the foothills is ideal golfing ground. Forests of mature cedar and fir trees blanket the landscape, which is also dotted with natural springs. Alderbrook's 16th hole is memorable for its extremely steep incline, but a panoramic view of the Tillamook Valley offers some scenic respite.

Manzanita Golf Course
Manzanita Golf Course -  Manzanita
The golfer who likes to play different kinds of courses will enjoy the uniqueness of Manzanita Golf Course, located off HWY 101. The 2,192-yard, par-32, 9-hole layout is constructed on a beautiful hillside that faces the pounding surf.
The course has many majestic fir trees, lush fairways, and well-cared-for greens. Hole #5 is a particularly interesting hole. The tee area is 80' above the fairway and provides a wonderful view of the hole. Only 280 yard from the back tees will provide the golfer with a great opportunity for an eagle.
Steve Erickson, owner and manager, and his friendly staff will ensure your round is enjoyable and satisfying. The pro shop has the latest in golf equipment and apparel and the snack bar can provide you with your favorite foods and beverages.

Gearhart Golf Links
Gearhart Golf Links -  Gearhart
Although records indicate that the golf course at Gearhart was established in 1892, tradition has it that several Scotsmen laid out four holes on the wind-swept dunes in the 1880s. Gearhart Golf Links is the oldest course in Oregon.
Originally a nine-hole course, Gearhart Golf Links was extended to 18 in 1913. Today the golf course is 6,218 yards, par 72 and stretches for about a mile from north to south, with the width equal to about three fairways. The elevation is fairly constant, but the up-and-down roll of the sand dunes over which the golf course is built, makes a flat lie a rarity. Gearhart Golf Links' sand base makes for excellent drainage, and the encircling condo-motel units provide considerable shelter from the coastal winds. The golf course is generally wide open, easy to walk, and a pleasure to play.
