Oregon Coast Jambalaya Cook-Off

Now, this is an event I'm definitely excited about! I LOVE jambalaya and every time I eat it, I'm reminded of my trip many years ago to New Orleans. It was in the mid 1980s, when I was a professional violist in Los Angeles. I was scheduled to audition for the New Orleans Symphony and had been practicing and practicing. Unfortunately, at the last minute I was in a car accident that aggravated a previous injury and I knew I wouldn't be able to audition at the level necessary to get the job.

There I was, with a plane ticket to New Orleans I didn't want to go to waste, so I called an old friend and said "What are you doing next weekend?" Meet me in New Orleans!

Well, I've got to tell you, I sure had a much better time eating the fabulous food in New Orleans and partying in the French Quarter, than I would have doing that audition! This was the first time I ever tasted Jambalaya. I was hooked! Ever since, I've ordered it in many places and made it myself, but never has it been as wonderful as that first time in New Orleans. You know, even if I went back, it still wouldn't be as great as what I remember.

It's amazing how remembering the taste or smell of a past experience can bring a smile to your face. Hopefully, some of you might have that experience after a stay with us. Maybe it's when you put some bubble bath in your tub, you flash back on the time you used too much bubble bath in one of our tubs!

The Culinary Center in Lincoln City is located at 801 SW Hwy 101, on the 4th Floor, North. They're above the Driftwood Public Library, and City Hall. Lincoln City is a lovely 35 minute drive from Sandlake Country Inn

***Just a note to my audition story: it worked out perfectly...the New Orleans Symphony went bankrupt and folded shortly after. Boy, was I glad I chose the culinary experience over the music experience!
